-कार्तिक माह की शुक्ल पक्ष की एकादशी को देवउठनी एकादशी कहा जाता है । इसे देवोत्थान एकादशी , देवउठनी ग्यारस , प्रबोधिनी एकादशी आदि नामों से भी जाना जाता है । आषाढ़ शुक्ल एकादशी अर्थात देवशयनी एकादशी को देव सो जाते हैं , और इस दिन से चार्तुमास प्रारंभ होने के कारण सभी मांगलिक कार्य रुक जाते हैं । देवउठनी एकादशी को देव उठते हैं , क्योकि , एसी मान्यता है कि देवशयनी एकादशी के दिन भगवान विष्णु चार माह तक क्षीरसागर में सोए थे , जो चार माह उपरान्त देवउठनी एकादशी जागे थे । इस लिए इसे देवोत्थान अर्थात देवउठनी एकादशी कहा जाता है ।

देवउठनी एकादशी से सभी मांगलिक कार्य शुरू हो जाते हैं । एकादशी के दिन पवित्र नदि – तीर्थ इत्याति में स्नान – दान , होम , यज्ञ तथा उपासना आदि का विशेष महत्व है । इस दिन से सभी मांगलिक कार्यों का प्रारंभ हो जाते हैं । इस दिन भगवान विष्णु लक्ष्मी के सम्मुख शुद्ध घी का दीपक जलाएं । हिन्दू शास्त्रोंमें कार्तिक मास को सर्वश्रेष्ठ मास माना गया है । इस कलियुग में कार्तिक मास भगवान विष्णु की आराधना के लिए अत्यंत दुर्लभ हैं । विद्वानों का मत हैं की , भगवान विष्णु की आराधना हेतु कार्तिक मास के समान और कोई भी मास नहीं है । कार्तिक मास मनुष्य को धर्म , अर्थ , काम एवं मोक्ष चारों प्रदान करने वाला है ।

कार्तिक मास में स्नान – दान एवं तुलसी का पूजन विशेषरुप से फलदायी होता है । शास्त्रोक्त मान्यता हैं , की कार्तिक मास में दीपदान करने से मनुष्य के सभी पाप नष्ट हो जाते हैं । स्कंद पुराण में वर्णित है कि कार्तिक मास में यदि कोई मनुषय मंदिर , पवित्र नदी के किनारे , तुलसी के निकटा , घर के पूजा स्थान एवं शयन कक्ष में दीपक जलाता है उसे सकल सुखों की प्राप्ति सरलता से होती हैं । कार्तिक में भगवान विष्णु एवं देवी लक्ष्मी की आराधना विशेष रुप से फलदायी सिद्ध होती हैं एवं उनके समक्ष दीपक जलाने से अतुल्य फलों की प्राप्ति होती हैं । विद्वानों का मत हैं , की यदि स्नान में कुशा , दान करते समय हाथ में जल , एवं जप करते समय संख्या का संकल्प अवश्य करलेना चाहिए , अन्यथा किये गये कर्म के फल की प्राप्ति नहीं होती है ।

Ekadashi of Shukla Paksha of Kartik month is called Devauthani Ekadashi. It is also known by the names Devotthan Ekadashi, Devauthani Gyaras, Prabodhini Ekadashi etc.

Dev falls asleep on Ashada Shukla Ekadashi i.e. Devshayani Ekadashi, and from this day all Manglik works stop because of the commencement of Charutmas. Dev wakes up on Devuthani Ekadashi, as it is believed that Lord Vishnu slept in Kshirsagar(ocean) for four months on the day of Devshayani Ekadashi, which awakened Devouthani Ekadashi after four months. Therefore it is called Devotthan i.e. Devauthani Ekadashi.

All Manglik works begin with Devauthani Ekadashi. on the day of Ekadashi, bathing in the holy river, pilgrimage etc., home, yagna and worship etc. have special importance.

All Manglik works begin from this day. On this day, light a lamp of pure ghee in front of Lord Laxmi-Narayan. Karthik month is considered the best month in Hindu scriptures. In this Kali Yuga, Kartik month is very rare and beneficial for worshiping Lord Vishnu. Scholars believe that there is no other month to worship Lord Vishnu like the month of Kartik. Kartik month is supposed to provide humans with Righteousness, wealth, desire and liberation(धर्म , अर्थ , काम एवं मोक्ष).

In month of Kartik -Bath, Worshiping of Tulasi(basil) and donations is especially fruitful. The scriptures believe that by donating a lamp in Kartik month, all the sins of human being can be destroyed.

It is described in the Skanda Purana that if a person burns a lamp in Kartik month, on the banks of a holy river, in a place of worship and in a bedroom, he gets complete happiness easily.

The worship of Lord Vishnu and Goddess Lakshmi in Kartik proves particularly fruitful and the lighting of lamps in front of them brings incredible grace of god.

Scholars are believe in that you must do this- use kusha(holy grass) in a bath, sankalp(resolution) while doing donation and chanting of mantra otherwise the fruits of karma will not be achieved.
